"Dr. Salib is one of the best for a reason. He's very attentive and knowledgeable. He spends time explaining what he's doing. Highly recommended."

LASIK and PRK are two common procedures used to help our Laguna Hills patients regain quality of life

For many people, changes to vision are a minor nuisance, causing them to pull out their eyeglasses to read the fine print on labels or perform up-close work. What many of our patients experience is far more disruptive to daily life than slight blurring due to presbyopia. We love showing men and women with mild to moderate nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism that there is hope for a brighter, clearer tomorrow with refractive eye surgery.

Both LASIK and PRK are considered refractive procedures, as each alters the way that light is refracted off the back of the eye. PRK was the first refractive surgery developed. Though LASIK is quite popular, many patients visit our eye institute in Laguna Hills for whom PRK remains the best choice of care. Dr. Salib himself has undergone the LASIK procedure, and has experienced the life-changing benefits that come with clearer vision and a reduced need for corrective glasses or contacts.

Would you like to know what it's like to read the morning paper or that important report without first reaching for your eyeglasses? Would you like to more easily read street signs and gain more freedom to feel confident in your participation in sports? We invite you to learn more about the PRK and LASIK procedure in a private consultation at Orange County Eye Institute.

The goal of refractive surgery

Refractive eye surgeries like PRK and LASIK are intended to improve vision. The way this is done is by reshaping the cornea. Both procedures achieve results with an excimer laser. The primary difference between them is that LASIK involves the creation of a flap to provide access only to the tissue beneath the cornea. In PRK, no flap is created. For this reason, recovery may take a bit longer. There are, however, advantages that make PRK more suitable for some patients.

Millions of people have changed their lives for the better by working with an experienced eye surgeon such as Dr. George Salib. Having eye surgery may sound frightening, but the truth is that refractive procedures take only a few minutes from start to finish. Numbing medication is applied to the eye before surgery to improve comfort, and most patients report post-operative comfort to be very high. In most cases, normal activities can be resumed within a day.

Orange County Eye Institute offers you the skill, the information, and the payment plans that can help you improve your vision and improve your life. Call (949) 441-5444 today.
