Improving aesthetics and function through blepharoplasty

Although we greet others with a friendly smile, our eyes say a lot when we communicate through expression. During conversation, our natural tendency is to read facial expressions, to include the subtle movements in eyelids. For some people, the appearance of the eyes leads to certain interpersonal issues when expressions are misinterpreted due to the natural characteristics of the eye. In this instance, we are referring to the presence of excess fat or skin on the upper or lower eyelid, also known as festoons.

The presence of excessive skin and fat tissue on the eyelids has a negative impact not only on interpersonal interaction, making one seem angry or even unfriendly, but this issue also impacts how a person may view him or herself as well. Specifically, when the eyes are heavy in appearance, one may feel they look older than they really are, and self-confidence may be affected. In cases where skin is especially droopy, vision may become somewhat impaired. Fortunately, we offer treatment for Orange County drooping eyelids that allows our patients better vision and better feelings about their appearance.

Several factors affect the state of the eyes, both functionally and cosmetically. Festoons are quite common as we grow older, but they may also appear on a younger individual due to sun exposure, weight, lifestyle habits, or allergies. While there are ample creams and serums designed to tighten skin around the eyes, the real problem behind puffiness and Orange County drooping eyes is excess fat. Remove the fat and excess skin when necessary and the eyes become features that you can feel proud of.

Today, blepharoplasty, the surgical correction for excess fat and skin on the eyelids, is the third most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the United States. This procedure may address the upper lids, lower lids, or both, depending on the patient's specific needs. Making tiny incisions at the crease of the upper lid, or the lash line of the lower lid, excess tissue and skin are carefully removed and the incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures.

Depending on case specifics, insurance may cover the blepharoplasty procedure. For more information or to schedule your consultation to discuss puffy or droopy eyelids, contact us today.
